Course description
This is part of the Course of Special Subject, and its completion is recommended for students in the Department of Environment Conservation.
Students must attend both of the two lecturer's class.

KANEKO Yayoi:
In this lecture, we target mammal conservation/management, especially by understanding of topics focused at outside/inside of Japan. The lectures aim at understanding of concepts and terms of animal ecology, such as zoogeography, evolution, social behaviour, and population. Based on the fundamental science, the lectures focus on applied components in conservation. The students must develop discussion/presentation skills of current hot topics in small groups.

UNO Hiroyuki:
The purpose of the Ecosystem Conservation is to understand the population dynamics for large mammals, the impact of animals on their habitat, and wildlife management as one of ecosystem management. This course also aims to get the capability for explanation through a discussion.

Expected Learning
KANEKO Yayoi:
The lectures aim at understanding of concepts and terms of animal ecology, such as zoogeography, evolution, social behaviour, and population. Based on the fundamental science, the lectures focus on applied components in conservation, through discussion session.

UNO Hiroyuki:
Students need to gain ability to explain wildlife management and ecosystem conservation as follows:
1) the population dynamics for large mammals,
2) the population management, damage management and habitat management for wildlife,
3) the conservation and restoration of ecosystem.
