Course description
In this course, students will learn the structure of human language and how it especially works in a creative aspect of language use from a linguistic perspective. This course consists of three parts. In Part 1, students will learn how our cognition shapes our language structure. In Part 2, students will get the opportunity to learn how the form and meaning of language change over time. In Part 3, students can learn how creative texts such as lyrics are analyzed grammatically.
Expected Learning
・Students will learn basic concepts in linguistics such as categorization, frames, and metaphor.
・Students will learn how new meanings and forms are created in language.
・Students are trained to analyze a short creative text from a linguistic perspective.

Prerequisites
This is an elective course.
Students should make adequate preparations before each class, spending
the standard amount of time specified by the university to achieve
the credit as well as 30 hours of class attendance.
