Course description |
The purpose of this lecture is to acquire knowledge about matters related to dielectric properties and magnetic properties in electromagnetism. You learn about the dielectric properties and magnetic properties that were treated as supplemental matters in undergraduate classes. First, review the Coulomb's Law, Ampere's Law, Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction and then learn about electromagnetic field, polarization, magnetic moment, magnetization and so on. |
Expected Learning |
Students are expected to understand and explain the foundation of magnetic properties such as magnetic field, magnetic moment, and magnetization. Students are expected to understand and explain the measurement method of magnetization using Faraday's electromagnetic induction. Corresponding criteria in the Diploma Policy: See the Curriculum maps. |
Course schedule |
1. Electric Field in vacuum Maxwell equation, Divergence and Gauss theorem, Rotation and Stokes theorem 2. Coulomb's low, Faraday's low, Ampere's low 3. Displacement current, Scalar potential 4. Poisson's equation and Laplace equation 5. Vector potential 6. Energy conservation and pointing vector 7. Electromagnetic potential in electrostatic field 8. Electromagnetic wave Electromagnetic field in materials 9. Inside dielectrics 10. Polarization charges, Polarization currents and magnetic currents 11. Maxwell equation in materials 12.
