Course description
Understanding of industrial standards and intellectual property rights is recently essential for MOT managers. In addition to western countries, developing countries are recently having more concern over these issues, and thus those countries will be competitive to Japan.
This course aims at providing interested graduate students with idea of industrial standardization policy including its meaning, international tendency, and some typical examples.
Expected Learning
1.To understand variety of standards and relating organizations
2.To understand the recent international trends
3.To have an idea to establish a overseas business strategy with a view to standardization

This course consists of 15 series of lectures shown below;
Series 1: Orientation to the course
Series 2: Introduction to Industrial Standards
Series 3: Industrial Standardization Policy of Japan
Series 4: Example (ready mixed concrete)
Series 5: Example (felica)
Series 6: Role of International Organization in Standardization policy
Series 7: Standardization policies of major countries
Series 8: Example(railway system)
Series 9: Example(thermal insulators)
Series 10: Present situations and issues of relating organizations for standardization
Series 11: Standardization in other sectors
Series 12: Application of standardization policy to business sector
Series 13: Group discussion
Series 14: Issues for standardization policy
Series 15: Summary
I may partly change contents of series to effectively organize the course. Graduate students are expected to make commitment in the class, to submit short papers and to do group discussion.
Prerequisites
Basic understanding of Industrial standards is desirable but not essential.

This is my first course at TUAT. In the course I will try to show as many experiences and case studies as possible so that graduate students understand standardization policy and its importance.
