Course description
To develop students’ capabilities to convey the fruits of research to researchers in the same and other disciplines in English in an easy-to-understand way, and to discuss them in a professional manner. To further polish up and put into practice the capabilities for presentation, communication and discussion developed in Advanced Health Science Seminars I to III and the capability for communication in English developed in the practical English education course to a level high enough for presentation to international scholastic societies, and for each student to put in order and recognize his or her problems in these capabilities by learning the peer’s research acehivements and presentation techniques.

Course schedule
In order to develop students’ practical capabilities for presentation in English, choice of the international scholastic society or research group to which research results are to be addressed together with the research title and contents will be decided upon, and the appropriateness of the matters decided upon and presentation contents will be carefully scrutinized under the guidance of the mentor. Next, a summary of speech, slides to illustrate the presentation, posters and so forth will be prepared, delivery and Q&A sessions will be rehearsed in advance, and responses to anticipated questions will be planned. At the conference of the scholastic society or the like, presentations by other researchers in the related fields will be listened to, questions asked as necessary, and a report will be written on the contents and delivery skills of the presentation listened to, common factors with and differences from the student’s own planned presentation. On the basis of this report, posterior guidance will be given by the mentor regarding the presentation delivery, listening to others’ speeches and the Q&A session.
Prerequisites
In addition to 30 hours in classes and time required for completing assignments, students are recommended to prepare for and review the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references.

Assessment/Grading
Each student’s performance will be given an overall evaluation according to the presentation of research results to the scholastic society or research group in his or her field of specialization with respect to attitudes in advance preparation, delivery and the Q&A session.
The students will be evaluated by their performances on class participation (30%), presentation(30%) and discussion(40%).
