【Both face-to-face and online class is planned】
The 2nd meeting room, 4th floor,
Main building of United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, TUAT

In this subject, we will focus on natural resources, especially forest resources, as a resource conservation issue, and learn about resource conservation along with environmental issues. To understand the current state of forest resources, we will learn the basics of environmental science including basic meteorology, and study about social use of wood resources. We will also learn about resource circulation and the loss of resources due to natural disasters.
Expected Learning
Learn the following items
・ Basics of meteorology: Hydrothermal circulation on a global scale
・ Basics of environmental studies: Mechanism of global warming
・ Forest resource science: Relationship between forest growth and water resources
・ Natural disasters: Understand the classification of sediment-related disasters caused by water, and the loss of resources.
Course schedule
Class contents are mainly about the following items
・ Westerlies and trade winds. Air mass formation and understanding of weather map
・ Sensible heat and latent heat
・ Social water transport
・ The difference between artificial forests and natural forests, together with forest growth
・ Water circulation in watershed
・ Natural disasters and terrain formation
In addition, in order to understand the lesson contents, we will give a quiz about learning items, and we plan to have group discussions and presentations.
Prerequisites
Required Text(s) and Materials
The lecturer prepares the handout prints. Also, the documents are uploaded in the “classroom”.
References
Learn the meanings of technical terms in “Course schedule” in advance.
Assessment/Grading
Students submit the report on the class contents.
Message from instructor(s)
I think it is essential to discuss resource conservation together with environmental issues. For a comprehensive understanding, let's start with an understanding of the natural environment, though it may seem like a detour.
