Course description
July 25, 2022. Online lecture

・In this course, students will learn the morphology and multiplication patterns of plant viruses, and deepen their understanding of development of methods for virus control using vaccines and recombinant plants, and their applications as vectors for the production of useful proteins, breeding, and genome editing.
・This course is designed to provide students with advanced professional skills in the field of applied life sciences by learning the latest knowledge and technologies in agriculture.
・This lecture will be interactive, and students' understanding will be checked during the lecture.
Expected Learning
・To understand the basic morphology and multiplication patterns of plant viruses.
・To understand antivirus resistance using plant viruses.
・To understand how plant virus vectors are applied.
・Students must have achieved at least 60% of the above level of understanding.
・Please refer to the curriculum map in the course guide.
Course schedule
・The basic structures and patterns of growth of plant viruses
・Cross-protection by hypovirulent viruses (virus vaccine)
・Virus-resistant transgenic plants that are genetically modified to contain a virus gene (or a part of it)
・Applications of plant viruses as vectors
Prerequisites
Students are expected to prepare for and review the lecture content (7.5 hours of class time) and distributed lecture materials.
