Course description |
This is an introductory course for cultivating knowledge and awareness of independent learning. Classes will be given at various units of the University, i.e., Faculties, Departments, and small seminar groups depending on the content. This course consists of two parts. Part 1: All-Campus Program Get to know Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and think about how to study there. By acquainting the University's foundation, history, and its research activities, increase motivation to learn, and understand the meaning of student life design. Part 2: Faculty Program Participants will understand that integrating the University's missions, i.e., cutting-edge research, higher education, and their application (social contribution) is an urgent issue in developing human resources in agriculture who will contribute to the sustainable development of the world. |

Part 1: All-Campus Program 1. Knowing the University (I) A brief history of the University. Lectures by the president, and deans of Faculties of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering: "What I want you to challenge at TUAT", etc. 2. Knowing the University (II) Department heads' talks: introduction to the departments 3. Undergraduate study (First half) Differences between high school and university learning. Comprehensive planning of student life, e.g., on class taking and studying abroad, by looking to your future carrier goals. (Second half) Establishing identity and student life: Mental development in adolescence. 4. Social initiatives of the University (First half) Energy education: Global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. University's efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. (Second half) "Plastic Reduction 5R Campus", the university's initiative to reduce plastic waste. Educational and research activities aimed at developing next-generation human resources for global problem solving. 5. Research ethics The code of conduct for researchers and research fraud are outlined. Consider citation, fraud and plagiarism. Part 2: Faculty Program 6. Foundation of the University and modernization of Japan 7. The missions of US Land Grant Universities and Japanese National University Corporations 8. Japan's international development cooperation activities 9. Integral implementation of research, education and development - prospects and conditions 10. Prerequisites |
All-Campus Program: In addition to the 10-hour class time, review the class content using the standard individual study hours at the university, and design your student life and study plan. Faculty Program: Opportunities to discuss in English with researchers and experts visiting our University from overseas are expected. |
