Course description
This is an introductory course designed to cultivate knowledge and awareness of independent learning. This course consists of two parts.

Part I: General program
Students will think about how to learn at the university. The objective is to deepen students' understanding of the university's philosophy and history as well as its research activities, to enhance their motivation to learn, and to understand the significance of designing university life.

Part II: Faculty-specific Programs
Biomass resources such as trees, plants, and agricultural residues are all around us. They have a wide range of uses and are utilized in various ways in our daily lives. In this seminar, participants will learn the basics of biomass resources, present materials on how they are utilized, and discuss with each other to gain a deeper understanding.
Expected Learning
1) Understand what they will learn at university and be able to design their own university life from a bird's eye view.
2) Acquire the basics of communication and presentation.

Prerequisites

Assessment/Grading
University-wide common program (for 25%): 
The quality of each submitted assignment will be judged comprehensively. The ability to explain your opinions and ideas about the questions in your own words will be a key point in the evaluation.

Undergraduate original program (75%): The content and completeness of your presentation and your participation in the discussion will be judged comprehensively.

The basic seminar is an opportunity to acquire the basic skills for university research: (1) identify problems and issues on your own, (2) formulate a hypothesis, (3) investigate and verify the hypothesis, and (4) communicate the hypothesis to others in your own words. We encourage you to participate actively.
