Course description |
This course aims to develop minds for knowledge creation and autonomous learning, and is designed as an introductory course for the Liberal Arts and Fundamental Studies. It consists of two parts. Part I : Common Introductory Program In this program that is common to all first-year students, students will learn about our university and discuss how they would pursue their academic life in the Univeristy. The university history and TUAT principals are described as well as our research activities, with the aim to encourage students to become engaged in university study and to understand the importance of designing their individual university life. Part II : Faculty-Specific Program [Field experience] Students will conduct field works at Field Museum Tama Kyuryo (FM Tama), which is one of the fields of Faculty of Agriculture Field Science Center. The field works will be conducted in FM Tama after examining the plans. |
Expected Learning |
1) To understand the autonomous learning in the University, and be able to design individual's academic life at the University from broad perspectives. 2) To conduct basic basic field works. Part I : Common Introductory Program 1. Studying at the University Brief history of the University. Designing studies at the University. Identity development and academic life. 2. Broadening horizons International research activities and Diverse career paths for scientists with specialised knowledge and expertise. 3. Research ethics Code of conduct for research integrity and scientific misconducts. Falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism are explained. 4. Our Initiative for Society (lecture 1) Global warming and emission of greenhouse gas. Our effort in reducing CO2 emission. (lecture 2) TUAT Plastic 5R Campus-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renewable, Research. (lecture 3) Novel Coronavirus Infection: A challene from 未来疫学R (Mirai Ekigaku, literally Future Pathology) 5. The University's Nature and Science Museum Relationship between the society and the University's activity in generation of knowledge. Introduction to science communication. Part II : Faculty-Specific Program 6. Introduction Ice break 7. Introduction of field museums 8. Preparation of field works 9-13. Field investigations at FM Tama 14-15. Presentation 9th-13th will be held at FM Tama using one day (holiday). Others will be held at the class room (every Friday). |

Part I :In addition to the classes you attend, you are recommended to review and make preparations for the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University. Assessment/Grading |
Part I (25%): Marks are given based on worksheets collected at the end of each class. The key point in evaluation is how one's thoughts and perspectives are described in own words. Part II (75%): Degree of subjective participation in the field works and presentations. |
