Course description
The objective of this course is 1) to explore and cultivate an understanding of both Japanese culture and culture of the multi-cultural background of international students through a variety of activities inside and outside the classroom 2) to think and act how one can contribute to a society that consists of people of diverse and multi-cultural groups in assertive way.

This course is offered in English as one of the Multidisciplinary Courses of the Global Integrated Studies.
Expected Learning
1) To have an understanding and objective views on both Japanese culture and other cultures of international students.
2) To have assertive communication skills by interacting with people of diverse cultural groups.
3) To learn interviewing skills and conduct a group interview.

Prerequisites
This course carries 2 credit. In addition to 30 hours you spend in the class, and 14 hours for outside class activities, you are expected to prepare for, and review, the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University for each class, using the handouts and the reference books suggested in class.

Assessment/Grading
Participation & discussion 40% to access reflection on group and/or self-performance
Mid-term paper 20% to access one's knowledge on the optional activity and cultural understanding.
Group project presentation 20% to access group's ability to explain their project and findings.
Final paper 20% 1) to access the understanding of Japanese culture and express one's thoughts. 2) to access one's ability to explain the findings of the interview project. 3) to access one's ability to apply the findings of the project to make a better community.
