| Course description |
| The curriculum of Department of Ecoregion Science has various courses of the practicals, the experiments, and the researches in the field. To reach purposes of these course, students will be required sufficient knowledge and skills for safety management in the fieldwork. This course provides the fundamental knowledge for safety management and the first aid skills in the fieldwork. |

The learning experiences and activities in the course are designed to enable students to: 1. Define and describe the attitude to safety management in field activities. 2. Identify and explain the risk factors in the fieldwork. 3. Gain the skills needed to first aid (CPR and AED). 4. Gain the skills needed to use farm tools. This course is fifth period (16:30-18:00) Monday in the room of Buildingl No.1. I. Lecture Week 1. Orientation, Safety management in fieldwork (M. Shimoda) Week 2. Vegetation and risk management in fieldwork (M. Yoshikawa) Week 3. Risk management in social research (M. Nakajima) Week 4. Wild animals and risk management in fieldwork (S. Koike) Week 5.Human errors and risk management in fieldwork (T. Matsumoto) II. Practical Practical 1: Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use Automated External Defibrillator (AED) (M. Shimoda and H. Fukumoto) Practical 2: How to use Field Tools (T. Matsumoto) ☆Students will be divided into four groups. Each group attend the Practicals 1 and 2, biweekly. III. Paper report |

| Assessment/Grading |

You must fulfill following three: 1. Two or less absences during Lecture (Week 1 - Week 5). 2. Participate in practicals 1 and 2. 3. Hand in paper report. Evaluation standards are determined from the sum (100 % possible) of Participation (up to 60%) and Paper report (up to 40%). Participation 60%: to assess the understanding of both the concept of risk management and basic knowledge in field work. Students should participate the class actively Paper Report 40%: to assess the understanding of the concept of risk management in field work and the ability to explain the specific knowledge and application examples. |
