Course description
Blood and immunity are absolutely essential to sustaining an animal’s life. The quantity and properties of its constituents are regulated by very precise regulatory mechanisms. Knowing about normal hematologic and immunologic systems is crucial to understanding blood and immune diseases. Thus, this course teaches the basics of hematology and immunology in the form of the properties. This course also provides a deeper understanding of conditions that cause blood and immune disorders.
This course will specifically delve into major diseases seen in veterinary medicine both in small animals and in large animals.
Expected Learning
To understand the types and function of blood and immune cells and basics and to be able to explain the pathogenesis of typical hereditary and non-hereditary conditions related to blood and immune cells.
Course schedule
Classes will consist with online lectures and online examinations.

1) Basic hematology and immunology
2) Introduction (Companion animals)
3) Immune-mediated hematologic diseases
4) Lymphoid neoplasms and myeloproliferative disorders
5) Introduction (Large animals)
6) Typical hematologic diseases in large animals
7) Typical immunologic diseases in large animals
Prerequisites
In addition to 15 times of the lectures, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.

Assessment/Grading
Students who attend 3/4 or more of the classes in this course will be allowed to sit for an exam. Those students with a score of 60 points or higher will receive credit for this course. Students who fail to attend the prescribed number of classes will not be allowed to sit for the exam. Students who fail to achieve a score of 60 points will not be allowed to re-take the exam.
