Course description
Skills to use remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) is essential for analyzing environmental information. In this lecture, basic knowledge on RS and GIS is introduced with various examples in the first half of the course. Based on those knowledge, case of environmental study using RS and GIS is lectured in the latter half of the course.
Expected Learning
Students who successfully completed the course of this lecture, are able to
(1)Understand the role of remote sensing and geographic information system in environmental information.
(2)Understand the basic analysis skills of remote sensing and geographic information system.

Course schedule
The lecture content will change depending on the participant’s interests, and progress of the lectures, but the following topics will be lectured.

4:Basic of RS ①(Emission and reflection of electromagnetic wave)
5:Basic of RS ②(Platform and sensor) 
6:Image processing of RS data(Geometric and atmospheric correction)
7:Image processing of RS data(Feature extraction and image classification)
8:Land cover classification and extraction of land cover change
9:Analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing:Vegetation change①
10:Analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing:Vegetation change②
11:Analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing:Water environment①
12:Analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing:Water environment②
13:Analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing:Carbon cycle①

Prerequisites
In addition to 30 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University and using the lecture handouts as well as the references specified below.
