Course description |
This class will be offered as global liberal arts education by a lecturer with operational experiences in business. The lecturer has been with a food company involved in research and development, new business development and intellectual property, and now is on the board responsible for R&D. Besides lecture based teaching, a variety of lectures will be given as role play works solving product defeats like an R&D worker. From workshops & mock presentations of new business models to discussions on the models, deep understanding of ways & points of new business planning will be expected. With lecture based teaching and workshops, follows will be offered. 1. Importance of university education demonstrated in business execution 2. Scientific method of consideration required for technical issue solving 3. R&D strategy and intellectual property strategy in a company 4. Significance and method of launching a new business |

◇ Aug 23th (4th & 5th period) 《Lecturer;Mr. Yoshinori Hamachiyo》 Class 1: Importance of the corporate philosophy and R&D strategy. Taking Kewpie Corporation as a subject among the food industry, starting with its history and importance of corporate philosophy, and then explaining corporate profile, business domain and R&D strategy in detail. Class 2: Lecturing actual R&D activities based on the lecturer’s experiences as researcher. ① Explaining value propositions and new business development of the latest development of egg white protein ② Sharing the lecturer’s experiences in enteral nutrition product development from creating new ideas to solving various issues to new business model. In the end of Class 2, explaining significance and method of launching a new business and describing workshops and presentation for the following classes. ◇ Sep 7th (4th & 5th period) 《Lecturer;Mr. Yoshinori Hamachiyo》 Class 3: Explaining the launch of a new business of care food when lecturer was involved as an R&D worker. Then practical role-play based lecturer will follow that enables students further understand the entire scheme of R&D activities especially issue-solving through Q&A among themselves. Class 4: Practical role-play based lecturer , and Q&A ◇ Sep 14th (4th & 5th period) 《Lecturer;Ms. Yuko Kano & Mr. Yoshinori Hamachiyo》 Class 5: Explaining intellectual property strategy by Ms. Kano, general manager of the intellectual property in the company. Describing the importance of patent & trade mark strategy for corporate management. Class 6: Presentation session, proposal of launching a new business prepared through workshops. Thorough discussions among students from various points of views. Lecturers will give their own comments in the end of each presentation. ◇ Sep 20th (4th & 5th period) 《Lecturer;Mr. Yoshinori Hamachiyo》 Class 7 & 8: Presentations and discussions will continue same as previous Class 5 & 6. The lecturer will summarize the Class 1 to 8 in the end. |
Prerequisites |
In addition to 16 hours of lectures, preparation and review with reference books will be needed. Besides the lectures, drafting a new business launching plan done by group teams will be required. A total of 45 learning hours will be required for the course as a whole. |

Connecting what you learn at university and business in society should be most required for students and direct lectures and communication with the lecturers in the food industry will be the best to learn about from management on technology to actual issue solving. During classes, various role-play activities will be given and those will help students to learn better closer to the industry. Relativity and correlation between academia and business are what you learn during classes. |
