Course description |
Electromagnetism is one of fundamental subjects in electrical and electronic engineering. We are going to study Coulomb’s law, electric field / potential and their relationship, capacitance, and electric field in dielectric materials systematically. In this lecture, we are going to study steady electric field. Practices are included for better understanding. |
Expected Learning |
You will be able to understand steady electric field in Electromagnetism. Especially, you will be able to calculate the electric field and potential, and understand the fundamental principle of steady electric field. See the curriculum maps. |
Course schedule |
1st.: Background of Electromagnetism, and introduction. 2nd: Review of vector analysis. Unit and Coulomb’s law on point charges. 3rd: Practices on electric field and the calculation method. 4-5th: Gauss’ law and divergence. Calculation method of electric field by Gauss’ law. 6th: Electric field inside and the surface of conductors 7-8th: Relationship between the electric field and potential. Calculation method of electric potential. 9th: Electric dipole and the electric field. Lecture of electric field in conductors with holes and shielding. 10th: Electrostatic energy. 11th: Dielectric materials and polarization. Gauss’ law and boundary conditions for the case including dielectric materials. 12th: Practices on the calculation of electric field in dielectric materials. 13th: Capacitance and the calculation method. 14th: Fundamental principle in steady electric field. Poisson’s equation. 15th: Examination. |
Prerequisites |
Students are expected to have the standard amount of time to prepare for and review the lecture as specified by the University. |
