Course description |
This course is designed to develop students' ability to write clear, concise, and effective scientific English. Through a series of lectures, writing assignments, and peer review workshops, students will learn how to communicate scientific information in a way that is appropriate for academic and professional contexts. Topics covered include scientific style and tone, organization, and structure of scientific papers, writing effective abstracts, literature reviews, and scientific reports, and creating figures and tables. Expected Learning |
1. To gain fundamental abilities in writing scientific English paper, which are essential for scientists and researchers. 2. To acquire basic skills to write clear and concise abstracts, literature reviews, and scientific reports that effectively communicate scientific information. 3. To develop an understanding of scientific writing conventions, including scientific style, tone, and vocabulary. 4. To create effective visual aids, including figures and tables, to communicate scientific data. |
Course schedule |
It is planned to be held by face-to-face lectures in 2023. All lectures will be conducted in English only. Lecture 1: - Course introduction, course expectation. - Structuring research. Lecture 2: - Structure of scientific communications, data, figures, tables, indexing literature, citing literature, copy rights. - Topics of lab exercise, how to gain information. (writing assignment) Lecture 3: - Abstract preparation. (assignment review, writing assignment) Lecture 4: - Introduction section. (assignment review, writing assignment) Lecture 5: - Methodology section. (assignment review, writing assignment) Lecture 6: - Result section. (assignment review, writing assignment) Lecture 7: - Discussion section. (assignment review, group project) Lecture 8: - Conclusion section. (assignment review, writing assignment) Lecture 9: - Acknowledgements, reference section, authorship. Lecture 10: - Presentation of scientific research.
