Course description

This course offers fundamental concepts of dynamics of incompressible fluid. The course will cover: viscosity, Navier-Stokes equation, Reynolds number, some exact solutions for NS equation, boundary layer concepts, irrotational flow for invisid fluid, velocity potential, and lift and drag.
Expected Learning
Course Outcome 1: You are able to use concepts of common mathematical model of viscous and invisid flow to interpret physics of fluids.
Course Outcome 2: You are able to derive the governing equations and solutions for some simple cases from the NS equations or velocity potentials.

3rd week: Chapter 2 the Navier-Stokes equation
4th week: Chapter 3 Laminar and turbulent flow #1 Reynolds number
5th week: Chapter 3 Laminar and turbulent flow #2 Reynolds stress
6th week: Chapter 4 Exact solutions for NS equation #1: Couette and poiseuille flow
7th week: Chapter 4 Exact solutions for NS equation #2: Hagen-Poiseuille flow and unsteady flow on a flat plate
8th week: Mid-term examination
9th week: Chapter 5 Boundary layer #1 Boundary-layer concepts, Laminar boundary layer
10th week: Chapter 5 Boundary layer #2 Turbulent boundary layer

Prerequisites
To earn the credits of Fluid dynamics 1 (summer semester 2nd year), Differential equation 1 (winter semester 1st year), and Differential equation 2 (summer semester 2nd year) are reccomended before taking this course.
