Course description |
The relationships between humans and animals are diverse. There are many perspectives to study them. In this class, students mainly learn about the relationships between humans and companion animals from the viewpoints of psychology, biology and the related fields, and discuss the coexistence with animals. This is a discussion type class that requires preparation. This course carries 2 credits as a specialized subject. |

1: Overview of practice and research on human-animal relationships Students select the topics and decide the order to deal with. The following is provisional. 2: Rationalizing the use of animals 3: Animal as food 4: Concern for animals 5: Animal hoarding disorder 6: Pet ownership and children’s health 7: Attachment to dogs and cats 8: Impact of caregiving of pets 9: Raising dogs 10: Human-animal co-sleeping 11: Animal assisted activity 12: Dogs as psychological first aid 13: Animal assisted intervention 14: Treating and attachment 15: Dog training and parenting |
Prerequisites |
Basic knowledge on this field is required. Students are recommended to prepare for and revise the classes spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University, using the handouts, etc. |
