Course description
The internationalization of agriculture and food markets is affecting a wide range of areas related to economic and social systems, production and management, and the processing, distribution, and consumption of produce. In this lecture, we will look at food and the environment from the perspective of the utilization of local resources and agrifood business (agriculture and food-related industries) to understand their current status and problems, and examine their future prospects.
In this lecture, students will read two textbooks in rotation. Teachers will provide lectures and explanations.
This course is designed to discuss the actual conditions of agriculture and rural areas in terms of agricultural management, related policies, food and agricultural product distribution, and agribusiness in the curriculum of the Global Sociology Program.
Expected Learning
The purpose of this lecture is for students to introduce the textbook to each other and to establish each other's ideas through discussion among students.
Course schedule
In this lecture, we will read the assigned readings in a circle. Each participant will present the chapter he or she is responsible for, and all participants will discuss the contents of the presentation.

First half (Ogawa)

2. Current status and issues of 6th industrialization, etc.
3 Reconstruction of food-farm linkage and expectations for urban-rural exchange, etc.
4 Changes in food preparation and ingredient procurement in the food service and restaurant industry, etc.
5. Agricultural cooperative marketing in the midst of diversification of transactions, etc.
6. Branding of agricultural products and processed agricultural products, etc.
7. Influence of childhood poverty on eating habits in adulthood, etc.
8. Food safety and security, etc.

Second half(Narita)
9. Food Poverty, Working Poor
10. Transformation of the International Food Consumption Structure, Mega FTA/EPA and Food Trade
11. Rice Business, Wheat Business
12. Vegetable Business, Wine Business
13. Meat Business, Vegetable Oil Business
14. Plant Genetic Resources and Seed Business, Smart Agriculture
15. Multinational Agribusiness, Globalization of agricultural labor force

The second half of the course is scheduled on 29th July and 5th August (intensive course).
Prerequisites
This course is recommended for students who have taken economics and agricultural economics.
Students are required to refer to the lecture materials and reference books distributed to them, and to prepare and review them in accordance with the standard hours of the university.

Assignments (2 times) 100%: The evaluation points will be based on the students' accurate understanding, logical thinking, and argumentation on the assignments presented by each instructor.

The final evaluation will be weighted according to the number of classes each instructor has been in charge.
