Course description
Overview:
Corporate finance (corporate finance) is an essential knowledge for managers and entrepreneurs, as it is responsible for both aspects of corporate operations, i.e., raising and managing funds. In practice, one should use professional expertise, such as having a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or receiving support from client banks, etc., but not knowing the basic concepts can even lead to poor business decisions. This course is designed for students to master the fundamentals of finance, which are required in U.S. business schools. The course will provide an overview of various areas such as DCF (Discount Cash Flow) method, corporate valuation, the fundamentals of financial instruments such as stocks and bonds, and risk management, which are the basis for management decision making. It is recommended that students have some knowledge of accounting and corporate law, but the course will be explained in a practical manner so that it can be fully understood by those without such knowledge.
The course will be a combination of prior learning based on handouts and the textbook, lectures, case studies, and exercises.
This course, taught by faculty members with practical experience, aims to familiarize students with basic-level finance knowledge and methods from the perspective of how finance is used in practice.

Message from instructor(s)
Finance is the study of money. In Japan, people tend to avoid talking about money, but "money is important. In this lecture, we will deal with areas such as corporate procurement and operation, and managerial decision making, all in the context of finance. At times, we may talk about the main area of business administration, but it is acceptable to use it only as a reference.
The level of mathematics required for the fundamentals of finance is about that of a high school freshman, and although natural logarithms and derivatives may come into play a little, it is no problem to forget them. The most frequent use is in calculating powers of a power.
