Course description |
The fruits of technology and other intellectual and creative activities bring affluence to our society and provide opportunities for value creation and profit to companies that utilize these intellectual properties. In technology-based management, the proper handling of intellectual property is essential. In this course, students learn basic legal matters, the functions of the intellectual property system to protect intellectual property and to disseminate intellectual property information, and basic matters on how to utilize these functions, in order to acquire basic knowledge and develop skills in intellectual property management required in R&D or product manufacturing processes. In addition to the understanding of the legal system, the lectures aim at acquiring basic practical skills related to effective acquisition of rights, interpretation of the scope of rights, consideration of clauses in contracts based on the law, acquisition and analysis of IP information, strategic use of IP, and so on. Assessment/Grading |
Credits will be awarded based on the overall consideration of the student's participation in the lectures (efforts in exercises, group discussions, etc. conducted in the lectures), presentations in the comprehensive exercises, final reports, etc., and if the standard learning effectiveness as determined by the University is recognized. The evaluation will be based on 30% regular marks, 35% presentations in the comprehensive exercises, and 35% final reports. Grading is based on a 5-point system: S: 90 points or above, A: 80 points or above and less than 90 points, B: 70 points or above and less than 80 points, C: 60 points or above and less than 70 points. Grades will not be given to students whose attendance rate is less than 70%. |
