Course description
This course trains the ability to summarize, evaluate, and develop the contents in the scientific papers through preparation of the abstracts and discussion about them.

Expected Learning
Students will acquire the ability to understand the contents in the scientific papers correctly and explain them to others intelligibly.

Course schedule
The students have to prepare the abstracts of the recently published papers (in 2022 and 2023) in the following fields in advance and send them to Dr. Nakano via e-mail (k_nakano@cc.tuat.ac.jp).
(1) Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions
(2) Transition-metal-catalyzed polymerization
(3) Functional polymer materials
(4) Synthesis, functions, and applications of organic semiconductors
(5) Synthesis, functions, and applications of organic light-emitting materials
In each class, the students present the abstract and discuss with other students and Dr. Nakano about them.

Prerequisites
Sufficient knowledge about Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Functional Materials, and Analytical Chemistry is required.
In addition to 30 hours of class time, it is necessary to prepare for and review more than the same time.

Assessment/Grading
The grade evaluation in this class is premised on all attendances, and comprehensively evaluates the attitude to learn, preparation of compendium report, presentation, and discussion. Standard study time set by our university is required to get the grade. The rate of evaluation is as follows: preparation of preparation of compendium report: 50% and presentation/discussion: 50%.

Grade will be given according to the following criteria by comprehensive evaluation: S: 90 points or more, A: 80 or more and less than 90 points, B: 70 or more and less than 80 points, C: 60 or more and less than 70 points.
