Course description
We need to understand and control transport phenomena of mass, heat and momentum to realize a optimal condition for the use of materials. In this lecture, we study how to describe phenomena in a mathematical form. Especially, we focus on a phenomenon that is included in your Ph. D thesis and try to construct a reasonable mathematical model. A quantitative thinking to interpret a phenomenon is discussed.

Course schedule
This course is in a face-to-face discussion style.

We pick up some of phenomena that students are studying and try to construct a mathematical model.
The content depends on students but the following is an example.

1st - 3rd
In the phenomenon, what happens? what is the main target for modelling?

4th - 6th
modeling and validation of the model

7th - 8th
revision of the model and comparison with experimental data.
Prerequisites
Students should understand fundamental methods to solve diffrential equations.

In addition to 15 hours that students spend in the class, students are recommended to prepare for and revise the lectures, spending the standard amount of time as specified by the University.
