●10/16/2023 8:40-10:10, 515 Rendai Seminar Room Face to face classes ●Major Learning Objectives: Improve academic communication in English. Learning to communicate as an academic using the four basic skills of English naturally while also being conscious of the differences in cultural backgrounds and TPO. ●Place within the curriculum: The goal is to empower researchers to be able to disseminate information on their research while also gathering information in a global environment through smooth and accurate communication. This is an all-English, small group course to improve English skills for academic purposes in a global environment. |
Expected Learning |
●This course will focus on increasing awareness of English as a communication tool for the global community. The objective is to develop academic English skills for accurate and smooth communization in a multicultural environment. |
Course schedule |
●Classes 1 to 5 will be based on improving oral communication and listening skills. A group debate session will be held in the 5th class. ●Classes 6 to 10 will focus on improving reading and writing skills. Each student will be required to write a short scientific report and present it at the 10th class. ●Classes 11 to 15 will explore ways to making attractive oral/poster sessions and presentations. Final sessions will be done in either individual or group presentations or poster sessions. Discussions on the topic presented will be held after each presentation or session. *Please note that there may be changes in schedule due to the progress of the above studies. |

Assessment/Grading |
●Active participation in classes will make up 70% of the score. Grading will be based on the following, Active participation and preparation Actively expressing opinions in English Actively reacting and questioning the topic under debate ●Reports and homework will make up 15% of the score. ●Final presentation will make up 15% of the score. |
