√ On Nov, 22, 2023 (Wed) 10:00 〜 at The Seminar room C, ２nd floor, Kobushi building, College of Agriculture, Ibaraki University Classes will be changed to online classes depending on the status of COVID-19. √ “The forefront of animal welfare study: Farm animal and zoo animal” It is necessary to think about how to keep animals when we rear the various animals with our life. Animal welfare that is a concept of animal's QOL recently attracts attention as a topic of animal keeping in the world. This concept presented in the early 20th century is discussed with a topic that influences QOL of us not only an ethical frame but also a science concept in the international animal usage. In this lecture, I explain the latest animal welfare research in Japan based on an international trend around the topics in the farm animal and the zoo animal. √ This class will be held to acquire advanced professional ability of animal hygiene and management science by learning the latest knowledge and skills in the field of animal sciences. |

1) Animal Welfare and animal ethics Animal Welfare is one of the animal ethics. However, why was it developed in the Western Europe? In this section, various ethical considerations for animals and the development history of Animal Welfare concept in the West will be introduced. 2) Problems in Animal Welfare Based on the concept of "five freedom", which is one of the Animal Welfare principles, what is the problem in Animal Welfare will be explained. 3) Evaluation of Animal Welfare To understand Animal Welfare, evaluative method of Animal Welfare from behaviour and physiological parameters of animals will be explained. 4) Practical methods of Animal Welfare In this section, various practical methods and environmental enrichment to improve Animal Welfare at the actual animal keeping site will be introduced. |
