In this course students will study on the relationship between soil ecology and soil properties, based on the academic background of environmental science and soil science. Through the topics on environmental and agricultural sciences, we will discuss sustainable solutions on environmental and soil conservation.
Expected Learning
Understanding the relationship between soil ecology and characteristics of soil bodies.
Understanding environmental and soil conservation from the aspects of sustainability and capable to discuss solutions for environmental and soil conservation.

Course schedule
Soil is an essential resource for agriculture as a foundation for crop production, and it is also an environmental resource as the core of material cycles. From the linkage between soil, plants, microorganisms, and animals (including humans), we will study about the natural symbiotic system.
1. Living soil: soils, plants and microbes
2. Mycorrhizal symbiosis and soil organic matters in forest soils
3. Plant-microbe symbiosis and soil properties
4. Soil conservation and linkage among soils, plants and microbes
Prerequisites
By using distributed materials, self-studies will be conducted before and after the lecture.
