This course aims to develop students' communication ability in technical and academic English. Special emphasis will be placed on acquiring skills to prepare and give oral presentations on engineering-related topics. |

At the end of this course, students should have: 1. Demonstrated ability to explain some technical concepts in English related to their field of study; 2. Understood the basic structure of an oral presentation; 3. Successfully delivered assigned oral presentations on topics related to their field of study. |

1. Course Objectives and Outline 2. Presentation Skills: Posture, Eye Contact, Gestures, and Voice Inflection Presentation Task 1: Describing an Object 3. Presentation Structure: The Introduction, Body with Transitions, and Conclusion 4. Effective Visuals; Explaining Visuals; Citing Sources in a Reference List 5. Presentation Peer-Editing and Practice 6. Student Presentations: Describing an Object 7. Student Presentations: Describing an Object Presentation Task 2: Explaining a Process 8. Providing Background Information; Linking Words and Time Connectors; Tense and Active vs Passive Voice 9. Checking for Understanding; Presentation Preparation and Practice 10. Student Presentations: Explaining a Process 11. Student Presentations: Explaining a Process; Presentation Task 3: Laboratory Research 12.
