< Principles and Potentials of Agribusiness > 1. Introduction, Overview of agriculture, agribusiness, and agricultural markets, Explanation of assignment (own project) 2. Basic economics: supply and demand, market equilibrium 3. Behavior of agribusiness agents: private firms vs. cooperatives 4. Strategies of agribusiness firms: price discrimination, integration, scale economies and scope economies 5. Presentation by students (I), Branding and certification 6. Food safety and risk analysis 7. Presentation by students (II) 8. Summary, Final examination < Theory and Practices of Sustainable Agriculture > 1. Course introduction: Why, what, and how will we study about SA? 2. Why and how has SA been developed? (Background and history of SA) 3. What should we “sustain” in agriculture? (Theories of SA) 4. How sustainable is agriculture in your country? Presentation by students (I) 5. What is agroforestry? (Background, history, and current status) 6. What are the advantages and disadvantages of agroforestry? 7. How sustainable are agroforestry systems in the tropics? How can we develop agroforestry projects? 8. | A final grade will be given based on the performarmance for the two subjects: "Principles and Potentials of Agribusiness" and "Theory and Practices of Sustainable Agriculture." |
