The aim of this course is to introduce and practice strategies in scientific communication in English. Class activities will focus on discussion and presentation of students’ research. Skills to be covered include preparing a “science pitch”, developing coping strategies for discussion, making persuasive arguments, asking critical and constructive questions, delivering an effective oral presentation, and handling Q&A sessions. Preparing a self-introduction and research summary: “Science Pitch” assignment guidelines; Spoken vs written English; Nonverbal communication 3. “Science Pitch” presentations and discussion 4. Leading a scientific discussion; Expressing opinions; Coping strategies for discussion and handling questions; Research presentation assignment guidelines 5. Research presentation structure; Using transitions and signpost expressions; Creating effective slides; Explaining visuals; Handling Q&A sessions 6. Final presentations and round-table discussion 7.
